The village of Powell Ohio has seen a lot of transition
as it continues to be part of the growth occurring in
southern Delaware County. As part of its growth, the village
continues to provide its residents and businesses services
that they desire. Clean and well maintained streets, parks
and recreation development, and full time police service
keep this community a popular place for new and resale
homes. Population growth within the City has been explosive
over the past decade. Based on a current resident list,
the City population is approximately 6,000. Powell’s
population is family oriented and consists primarily of
professional workers. Residents enjoy living in planned
neighborhoods that are interconnected and have access
to public facilities such as parks and bikepaths.
The City of Powell, encompassing approximately three
square miles, is located on rolling highlands between
the Scioto and Olentangy River valleys, approximately
fourteen miles north of downtown Columbus, the capital
of Ohio. The Powell Ohio real estate market is tremendous.
The City is located near the intersection of scenic
State Route 315 and State Route 750, with State Route
750 bisecting the City. Commercial passenger air service
is available at Port Columbus International Airport, approximately
30 minutes away. The City’s strategic location in
southern Delaware county has promoted its development
as a semi-rural, suburban, greenbelt town. Residential
developments, combined with open space preservation and
minimized commercial and industrial development, has made
Powell one of the premier residential communities within
Central Ohio.
A number of recreational areas are also located within
commuting distance of the City, including the 8,600 Alum
Creek State Park, the 1,050-acre Highbanks Metro Park,
and the Columbus Zoo/Wyandot Lake complex consisting of
a 20-acre amusement and water park and 100 acres of gardens
and naturalistic habitats for over 6,000 animals. The
Powell Parks and Recreation program is still in its infancy,
as it was created in the summer of 2000 to help meet the
recreational needs of the Powell community
The Olentangy Local School District is comprised of 110-square-miles
in Delaware County, Ohio. The district serves all or part
of numerous municipalities including Orange Township,
Berkshire Township, Berlin Township, Genoa Township, Liberty
Township, Delaware Township and the City of Powell.
The Olentangy Local School District is located in the
heart of Ohio in Delaware County. Olentangy is fifteen
minutes from downtown Columbus, the state’s capital
and twenty-five minutes from Port Columbus Airport. Olentangy
offers high-end shopping at Polaris Fashion Place, numerous
eighteen-hole golf courses, a 3,500-acre lake with boating,
and a beach. In 1953-54, the newly created school district
opened the doors to its new school building, the school
facility located on Shanahan Road. Until the start of
the 1990-91 school year, the Shanahan building was the
home to the district’s entire K-12 student population.
Since that time, Olentangy has grown to include nine school
buildings which are located throughout the 110-square
mile district.
In order to address the continued enrollment growth,
several school building construction projects are underway.
The 2003-04 school year will see the opening of the district's
second high school and two elementary school buildings.
The following year, 2004-05, the district will open its
third middle school.
The Powell Ohio real estate market starts in the middle
$100,000 range and quickly rises to the over $500,000
range. The homes for sale in the Olentangy School district
which serves Powell and other areas of Southern Delaware
county also starts in the mid $100,000 price range, but
continues on well past $1,000,000. The real estate market
is very active due to the beautiful subdivisions and open
spaces throughout the area. You won’t want to miss
driving the area and just looking at the homes for sale.
You will enjoy the scenic route down Rt. 315 along the
Olentangy River on one side and down Riverside Dr. and
the Scioto River on the West side of Powell. Don’t
miss stopping at the Columbus Zoo which is minutes from
the downtown antique shopping area of Powell. |
